Kenya, here I come!!

I never thought this day would actually come. But here it is. I woke up with the feeling of excitement that only a trip to Africa can give you. I´ve been planning for so long, but still I don´t know if I´m really ready. Well, nothing to do about that....because Kenya.....HERE I COME!!

The trip leg went well and was nice to have to company of mom, dad and Ulrika. Starting to get a bit nervous when we approached Stockholm, but not as much as I had expected. Started to feel more and more sick as weel, and that´s a bit alarming,. But there´s nothing I can do about that now. Because now it´s time to board the plane to London.

The trip to London went well, even though I got rid of my two bottles of water that I bought INSIDE security That due to the fact that I had to transfer to another terminal and had to go through a NEW security check. While waiting for the transfer bus there was a piano that said “Play Me” – so naturally I did…J

Time to fly to Doha, the next leg of  my journey to Africa. It was a nice plane and ok food, the chicken was a little too spicy for me though so I couldn´t eat it. And I felt like an idiot when I couldn´t figure out how to work the entertainment screen in my seat But there´s nothing that a little good old fashioned spying can´t solve. I just sat and watched the other passengers until I saw a man put his control back into the seat handle. Then I could work it out! Started watching the Wizard of Oz, but couldn´t focus enought to see the whole movie. Guess I can finish it on the way home. Next to mes at a very nice woman from Bangkock, Nok. She studied in London to become an English teacher. We got to talk a bit about different school systems and the inspiration to become a teacher in the first place. And we wished each other the best of luck with our teaching careers. It was very nice that it was just two, little bigger seats where we sat. Still, I had trouble sleeping on the plane. My cough was killing me and I almost expected blood. I´m sure that the other passengers thought the ame and that I disturbed them a lot. But no one said anything, except or the steward who offered me some water. Poor guy, I´m sure he was afraid that I would die and he would get the blame for it. Finally I got a little sleep and woke up just in time for this beautiful sunrise.

While preparing for landing in Doha all I could see was a huge cloud of dust over the city. It wasn´t until we were almost grounded that I could see anything at all. No colors anywhere, just dust. I was a very special feeling to dismount the plane an feel the warm Saudi Arabic air. We took the transfer bus in to the terminal and everything went so fast that my dream about buying some water went into dust. I had to wait until I was back on the plane.

The new plane was just like any other smaller plane, nothing special. We also had to wait for our turn to take off (of course) and that took a while. When we finally took off we were 45 minutes delayed but then we went over the city of Doha and it looked nice. Even if it was mostly sky scrapes so was it beautiful with the water. So maybe the city is still worth a visit. But I hope there won´t be as dusty as it was now because then it would probably feel like being stuck in a sand storm. Not very nice! Because if I can visit the city I want to take a walk along the beach, like recommended.

I thought that we would get breakfast at the plane, but no such thing. The plane wasn´t full so I had the whole row to myself and fell asleep instead. Really needed that I must say!

After over five hours it was time to land at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Nairobi. It was really exciting to stare out of the window, waiting to see the first sight of Africa through the clouds. And I didn´t get disappointed. It was green and nice and the weather was pretty fine too.It was much warmer that I had thought, but I think part of that was due to fever. I was exhausted after the journey and all I wanted was to sleep.

Arriving at the airport was really interesting. I just followed the stream of people to the passport control. In the room there was a long bench with forms to fill for VISA etc, but no pens. I stod there for a couple of minutes and probably I looked lost because a service man came up to me and helped me to fill the form. Then he showed me to, to the ordinary ”VISA-all other passports” line but to the “Fast track/crew” line. I stood there and everything went perfect. I payed my 50$ and got my VISA. But the whole ”fast track” thing was a lie. It took AGES!  Then all I had to do was to drag my heavy bag towards custom. Just to be sure I asked the lady if I needed to show anything but no. So I went through and there was Njeri with a sign “LOVISA”. It was so nice to finally arrive and to see her. We took the car and headed towards Athi River.  It was just like in all the movies and on TV. The roads was unimaginable poor and there were peopl everywhere, chickens, cars standing everywhere and totally insane traffic. Pretty fun! On the way we stopped at Tuskeys. Nice store, pretty the same as Munken back home. Njei helped me to pack what I needed. And all I cold think about was water!

And now we were on the way to the farm. It was really on the country side and it was beautiful. Evvven though the road had broken down a bit due to all the rain.

So now, 30 hours later, I finally sit here, in my bed at Canini Beehive Center. Dead tired, sick as a dog but happy.
